Joanne Murtagh is a local artist born and bred in Beaumaris.She studied painting and drawing in Florence and later in Milan,becoming the first Australian woman to study at the prestigious Brera Academy of Fine Art, Milan ,Italy. Most mornings she swims in the bay and can be found here and there amongst the cliffs, painting and sketching under her umbrella in the Marine Sanctuary of Beaumaris. Sometimes she prefers to work in charcoal; loving it's simplicity and intimacy of mood.,it's haunting softness and smudginess, other times , welcoming an opera of colour to emerge.A magical, light footstep in her studio, the dance of goauche and oil pastels. Winner of Art Awards and exhibitions include: The People's Choice Award, Bayside Acquisitive Art Prize 2014, Isabella De Soyres Life Drawing Award, Beaumaris Art Group. Best Drawing Award Our Lady of Sacred Heart College.
