ARTIST NOTES: Magpies and eucalypts – Heidelberg, 2020
(quadriptych) 4 x (30 x 38cm)
calico, ink

Our rented home is due for demolition, but every morning the magpie’s carol is a ‘WAKE UP!’ yodel at my door. The fruit bats (a.k.a. flying foxes) travel to backyard gum trees each night, pollinating native forests and dispersing seed. But our eucalypt might soon be lost, as developers enter. Townhouses are going to disrupt the territory where so many blue tongue lizards gather rays of sun. It’s a sorry situation – ‘Good bye, backyard!’
Meanwhile, I appreciate our morning birds and these beautiful trees.
